Plastic Surgery of the Areolas - Reduction

The operation is carried out in the case of large areolas. The excessive skin of the areola is trimmed, and the cut is then sutured. The areola is smaller, but there is a scar around the areola’s perimeter. The surgery is carried out under general anaesthesia with one day of hospitalisation.

Post-Surgery Care

After the surgery, the cut on the areola is sealed up by a patch to be kept on for 14 days. Sterile gauze is applied on the patch. Every other day, the patient removes the gauze from the breast, and dresses the patch on the cut, without removing it. Afterwards, the areolas are again covered by sterile gauze. The breasts are not washed for 14 days. After two weeks, the doctor removes the gauze from the breast, also removing the patches from the cuts. The patients can remove the patches themselves if they cannot come for the re-bandaging. The stitches are absorbent, and they do not need to be removed. It is then possible to shower the breasts, and pressure massages of the scars should begin 18 days after the surgery. A finger is used to exert pressure on the scar for 30 seconds, and then the finger is moved to another place on the scar. This massage is carried out several times a day, and it is also suitable to use scar creams. Office work is possible on the 4th day following the surgery. Full physical strain is possible 3 weeks later.
