Plastic Surgery of the Thighs and Arms
As we are aging, the elasticity of the skin declines and the skin becomes loose not only in the face, but also in the area of thighs and arms. There is excessive skin and subcutis upon greater weight loss as well, which is not only a bother aesthetically, but also creates hygiene problems and supports the creation of eczema. This excess can be removed surgically, under general anaesthesia. The scars after the surgery remain on the inner side of the arms and, with the legs, they lead from the groin towards the buttocks’ crease. The thigh and arm surgery is often combined with the liposuction of the respective areas. Hospitalisation lasts for 1-2 days.
Post-Surgery Care
One or two days after the surgery, the doctor removes drains used to drain off the rest of the blood liquids. The patient leaves the hospital with compression clothes on the legs; the arms are dressed by an elastic roller bandage. Concerning the legs, the patient removes the elastic compression together with the gauze from the cut every day, leaving only the patches on the cut, which will be dressed with a disinfectant spray following which the sterile gauze is put back together with the elastic clothes. Concerning the arms, this re-bandaging takes place in a similar way, except only every other day and instead of using compression clothes, the arms are dressed with an elastic roller bandage. Two weeks later, the doctor removes the compressions, gauze and patches on both the arms and the thighs and it is possible to take a shower. It is possible that the patients remove the patches themselves in the event that they cannot come to the re-bandaging. The stitches are absorbent and they do not need to be removed. In the case of hip liposuction being carried out as well, it is possible that tiny stitches remain on the skin, and it is recommended to remove these 14 days after the surgery. Pressure massages of the scars should begin 18 days after the surgery. A finger is used to exert pressure on the scar for 30 seconds and then the finger is moved to another place on the scar. This massage is carried out several times a day and it is also suitable to use scar creams. The patient maintains a state of rest for 14 days after the surgery. With arm surgery, office work is possible a week after the surgery, with the arms being bandaged for one more week. Full physical strain of the arms is possible 4 weeks later. With thigh surgery, office work is possible 14 days after the surgery. Compression clothes are then worn for 2 more weeks, constantly, only taken off for showers. Full physical strain is possible 4 weeks after the surgery.
