Chin Surgery

Reducing the chin projection is carried out when the chin protrudes forward atypically. A part of the chin bone is ground down in such a way as to make the projection correspond with the face. Chin augmentation, on the other hand, is carried out when there is an atypical image of a retroposed chin. An incision on the inner part of the lip exposes a part of the chin bone to which synthetic material is added, modelled into the shape of the part we want to augment. We use Medpor, a material that allows for the intergrowing of surrounding bones, and thus becomes a part of the entire bone. Chin augmentation, as well as chin reduction, are both carried out under general anaesthesia, with 1-2 days of hospitalisation. The scars are not visible on the skin, as the operation is carried out on the inner part of the lip.

Post-Surgery Care

After the surgery, the area of the chin is sealed up by a patch to be removed by the patient after 3 – 4 days. Oedema in the lower part of the jaw may persist for 7 – 14 days. The stitches on the inner part of the lip are absorbent. If, in any case, they are not released within 18 days, it is necessary to remove them. After the surgery, we recommend a diet of mashed foods and to rinse the mouth with a chamomile solution or water. Office work is possible 4 days after the surgery, taking the fact that oedema may persist into consideration. Full physical strain is possible 3 weeks later.
