Hyaluronic Acid Filling - Liquid Facelift

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are used to smooth out wrinkles, shape contours of the face, fill out volume where needed, revitalize the décolletage, neck, and hands, and also increase the volume of the lips.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is naturally occurring in the human body, and so fillers formulated from it are usually well tolerated by the body. Many injectable fillers on the market contain it. They differ mainly in their linkings, concentration, and viscosity. These are also the basic parameters physicians use to recommend a specific preparation.

Preparation for treatment with a hyaluronic acid filler

The first step is a consultation with your doctor about whether an injectable filler is really the solution to your particular problem and about which formula would be most appropriate. Anti-inflammatory drugs, blood thinners, and large doses of vitamin C should be avoided for one week prior to treatment with hyaluronic acid. Contraindications are pregnancy, breast-feeding, infections, and autoimmune diseases.

Application of hyaluronic acid fillers

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are injected with thin needles into the surface, intermediate, or deep skin layers, depending on the type of wrinkle, the location treated, and the individual characteristics of the problem. Anesthesia is not normally needed, except for treatment of the lips and some other very sensitive areas. In these cases, an anesthetic cream is most often used.

After treatment with hyaluronic acid fillers

Mild bruising, redness, and swelling may occur at the injection site. These symptoms usually disappear within 2-3 days. In the initial hours after treatment, it is important to avoid any large facial expressions, and also to avoid sun tanning or saunas for several days.

Duration of effect of hyaluronic acid fillers

The effect of the filler is not permanent, though it does last for a long time: 6 months to a year, 6 months for shaping and enlarging the lips.
