INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROCEDURE

What is an umbilical and inguinal hernia?

Umbilical and inguinal hernias are common health problems caused by weakening of the abdominal wall and hollowing of the internal structures. The solution is safe and effective surgery that restores the strength of the abdominal wall and prevents potential complications. Umbilical and inguinal hernia surgeries are common surgical procedures that address the prolapse of organs (usually fat or intestines) through a weakened spot in the abdominal wall. A hernia is a condition in which the abdominal wall is weakened and a portion of the internal structures – most commonly fat or intestine – is herniated out, manifesting as a visible to palpable resistance in the subcutaneous tissue. A hernia may manifest as a soft protrusion that reverts when pushed back, but is often accompanied by pain and discomfort on exertion. In our clinic, this type of procedure is performed using an open technique. It takes 30–90 minutes.
