What is scrotoplasty?

Scrotal skin reduction (scrotoplasty) is a simple surgical procedure that addresses aesthetic and functional problems associated with excessive skin overgrowth in the scrotal area.

Scrotoplasty is a procedure aimed at removing excess scrotal skin that may cause discomfort, pain or an unpleasant feeling during movement. The surgery is performed under analgosedation or general anaesthesia and takes approximately 60 minutes. The outcome is a firmer and natural-looking scrotum without excess skin. It helps to increase comfort during sports, hygiene and intimate activities.

Consultation with a doctor

  • Assessment of the extent of excess skin and the suitability of the procedure

Preoperative examination

  • Blood tests, ECG (it is possible to undergo the examination at our clinic)
  • Results must be no older than 30 days before the procedure
  • Inform the doctor about the medicines and supplements you are taking

Preparation before the procedure

  • 7 days before the procedure, discontinue blood thinners
  • 24 hrs before the procedure, do not smoke
  • 12 hrs before the operation, do not eat, drink alcohol or coffee
  •  Arrange for someone to accompany you and drive you home

Procedure

  • Lasting about 60 minutes
  • The incision is made along the centre of the scrotum and excess skin is removed
  • The wound is carefully closed and a dressing is applied to the site
  • The scar is situated in the raphe scrotalis – a ridge in the middle of the scrotum

After the procedure

  • Short rest at the clinic
  • Discharge on the same day
  • You will receive home care instructions

Follow-up

  • 7–10 days after the procedure to check healing
  • Stitches are usually not removed – they are absorbable

  • With blood clotting disorders

Possible complications are rare and may include:

  • Bleeding, swelling, pain
  • Infection at the procedure site
  • Impaired wound healing and scarring
