What is vaginal tightening?

Vaginal tightening (often called vaginoplasty) is a simple and effective procedure that restores the firmness and shape of the vagina, improves sexual comfort and increases women’s self-confidence. Vaginal tightening is a surgical procedure aimed at tightening the muscles and tissues in the vaginal entrance area, most commonly after childbirth or due to age. The surgery takes approximately 30–60 minutes and depending on the extent of the procedure can be performed under local anaesthesia, analgesia or general anaesthesia.

Preoperative examination

  • Gynaecological examination
  • Depending on anaesthesia, ECG and blood tests, if necessary
  • It is possible to undergo an examination at our clinic
  • Results must be no older than 30 days before the procedure

Preparation before the procedure

  • 7 days before the procedure, discontinue blood thinners
  • 24 hours before the procedure, do not smoke
  • 12 hours before the operation, do not eat, drink alcohol or coffee

Procedure

  • Duration: approx. 30–60 minutes (depending on the scope)
  • Performed in an outpatient setting or during short-term hospitalisation
  • The doctor removes excess mucous membrane and strengthens the muscles of the perineum and surrounding tissues
  • Stitches are absorbable

After the procedure

  • Short rest, the patient is usually discharged the same day
  • Mild to moderate pain – treated with analgesics
  • A resting regime and hygiene of the intimate area is recommended

Follow-up

  • The first check-up usually takes place within 7–10 days, as agreed with the surgeon.

Aftercare

Increased restrictions: 1–2 weeks of rest after the procedure

Recommendations

  • Duration of healing: 2–4 weeks – limit movement and heavy lifting
  • Sexual intercourse: usually after 6 weeks (as directed by your doctor)
  • Maintain hygiene of the intimate parts – wash with water or a non-irritating product
  • Wear loose cotton underwear

The treatment is not suitable for:

  • Pregnant women or women shortly after giving birth
  • Women with active vaginal infection
  • Women with cancer or serious chronic illness
  • Women with significant atrophy of the vaginal mucosa

Possible complications are rare and may include:

  • Mild bleeding and soiling
  • Swelling, scar tightness
